Grano e Caffe in Morningside is a vibrant local café that bridges the gap between classic coffee culture and a diverse, flavour-packed menu with a distinct Asian twist. Located on Thynne Road, it’s the kind of place that works well for a casual breakfast, a leisurely lunch, or a laid-back dinner on select nights when their Japanese-inspired dishes really come to life.

The atmosphere here strikes a balance between relaxed and lively, appealing to a broad local crowd — from morning coffee seekers and families grabbing a bite, to couples enjoying evening meals that evoke a sense of Tokyo’s café scene, complete with familiar Japanese background tunes. You’ll often find people settling in to enjoy more than just a quick caffeine fix; the space invites lingering over thoughtfully prepared plates.

From bright breakfasts featuring house-made sourdough rolls with burrata and yuzu marmalade to heartier lunch options like char-grilled Angus beef burgers and seafood risottos, the menu leans into fresh, well-seasoned ingredients with generous portions. Their seafood offerings, such as the Moreton Bay Tiger Prawn ciabatta and prawn zucchini pasta, stand out for their freshness and flavour, often drawing repeat visitors. The Japanese-influenced chicken karaage, katsu curry, and bento boxes add a comforting, homestyle dimension that complements the café’s diverse all-day menu.

Grano e Caffe’s coffee earns just as much attention as its food, with the quality of brews aligning well with its laid-back yet attentive service. Locals seem to appreciate this as a spot where you can start your day with a well-crafted cappuccino or cap off a casual dinner with friends in an unpretentious setting.

Best times to visit tend to be mid-morning for those wanting a solid breakfast or weekend brunch, and early evening on the nights they offer dinner—perfect for those craving Japanese flavours without the formality of a full restaurant. Families, couples, and working professionals alike find the setting comfortable, making it a versatile spot in Morningside’s growing café scene.

One of the best café experiences I've ever had! Everything from the atmosphere to the service was perfect. We tried their signature dishes, and all of them was absolutely delicious! Perfectly balanced flavors and beautifully presented. I highly recommend this café to anyone looking for a great cup of coffee and amazing food with a welcoming environment!

I visited here with my family and we had a wonderful meal here. The prawn zucchini pasta was amazing, full of flavour and packed with so much ingredients. The Japanese katsu curry was super nice as well, rich and comforting. All the other dishes we ordered came in good portions and were delicious too. Definitely a place worth returning to!

Wifey & I have have been hooked on the nomnoms here recently . It has been a great find for us cos the food here is fantastic. I this cafe serves up a mix of typical cafe brunch/lunch options, combined with Japanese bento & bowls with good portion sizes, reasonably priced and most importantly - it tastes great . Across several visits, we’ve had their: ~ Seafood Soup ~ Seafood Pasta ~ Bugs Pasta ~ Seared Salmon & Avo bowl . All of the dishes we’ve tried have been on point. The Seafood Soup & Seafood Pasta both have loads of mussels, king prawns, scallops and calamari. Wifey really liked their Bugs Pasta - which was made with three halves of moreton bay bugs, mud crab, bisque sauce and pappardelle. Plus their Seared salmon bowl had loads of salmon pieces, so for the prices it was amazing . We’re keen to come with Bailey too cos they have outdoor seating which is pup friendly . With friendly staff & great food, it makes this cafe very easy to recommend trying out

Great spot serving delicious food and coffees. I've been here for breakfast 7 or 8 times, but had no idea they were open for dinner some nights, so decided to check them out ... thoroughly enjoyable! Delicious Japanese food that took me back to actually being in Japan - especially the music... It's the same as you hear in most Japanese cafes We had the Kastu Bento and katsu curry bowl, as pictured - with gyoza for entrees. Highly recommended!

I discovered this café on Google Maps with a very high rating, and I finally managed to visit, they definitely lived up to my expectations. It’s not the cheapest place, but well worth every penny. The seafood was fresh, well-seasoned, and satisfying both in quality and quantity. There’s a great variety on the menu, and I absolutely loved the prawn and zucchini pasta. They also offer a range of Japanese dishes, which we’re excited to try on our next visit. That said, the coffee could use some improvement. We ordered a cappuccino and a latte, but both were served too hot and tasted slightly burnt. I hope the barista can fine-tune their process, because a great coffee would be the perfect match for their wonderful food.

We had breakfast here & found the food to be delicious. Served & presented with a Japanese twist the salmon & avocado dish was a stand out for me. Savoury mince was also flavoursome served with a delightful homemade bread which was super light. Coffee was passable & service attentive

The food is very delicious, especially the fryed chicken has a crispy edge to it. Along with the pasta being right on the spot for taste, I definitely recommend it for people who want delicacy but not too fancy spot for meal. Five out of five for lunch.
